Masherrill Koonce, O.D. | Board Certified Optometrist
Dr. Masherrill Koonce grew up in the small town of Thomasville, NC with dreams of pursuing a career that would allow her to serve others. Dr. Koonce received her BA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, her MS in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Koonce is very active in the medical community; she serves as state representative for the National Optometric Association (NOA) and is an active member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), North Carolina Optometric Society (NCOS), Piedmont Optometric Society and the Charlotte Medical Society.
In her free time, Dr. Koonce enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. She has also been on mission trips to Jamaica and Haiti. Dr. Koonce loves to read and participates in her neighborhood book club and never misses a chance to cheer on her beloved Charlotte Forty-Niners.
Stephen Smith, O.D. | Board Certified Optometrist
Dr. Stephen Smith is a Charlotte native who has been practicing optometry for the past 44 years. His thorough examinations are like none other. He takes time to listen and genuinely cares for his patients.
After a civics project at East Mecklenburg High School involving researching 3 careers that might interest him, he knew he wanted to be an eye doctor. Dr. Smith then attended Wake Forest for his undergrad, then pursued a MS in Science and Doctor of Optometry at the University Of Houston College Of Optometry. He is also an active member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the North Carolina Optometric Society (NCOS) and the Piedmont Optometric Society.
He joined Dr. Koonce after closing a private practice he and his wife Mary owned for almost 20 years. This allows him more time to pursue his passion for traveling, and spending time on the golf course.
